Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction to public health (definition, definition, basic characteristics of the field and its brief history) 2. Definition of health, definition of public health, Act No. 258/2000 Coll. On the protection of public health as amended by applicable legislation 3. Health and its determinants, living conditions and health 4. Health promotion, health education 5. Health status of the population of the Czech Republic and its expected trends 6. Demographic development and its expected impacts on health and social care 7. Basic principles of organization of health care provision in the world, principles of functioning of foreign health systems 8. Drug policy of the Czech Republic, drug information system 9. Financing of health care in the Czech Republic, general health insurance system in the Czech Republic 10. European Regional Program Health 2020 Seminars: 1. Disease prevention, health promotion. 2. Promoting health in the family and the workplace. 3. Health, health values, health education. 4. Health and its determinants. 5. Health systems, health care financing. 6. Public health protection authorities. 7. Health statistics, importance, basic indicators 8. Addiction issues, drug policy in the Czech Republic. 9. Professional ethics, compulsory confidentiality. 10. Health 21 and Health 2020.

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on primary, secondary and tertiary health care in a specific group of clients - seniors. It introduces peculiarities in the somatic, mental and social areas of their lives and points out the specifics of nursing care for the elderly. The course also focuses on the application of the nursing process in the most common disease in seniors and emphasizes the development of professional attitudes of students towards a specific group of clients - seniors. Aims of the course unit: - Gain knowledge of current demographic trends and the need for social support to provide care and assistance seniors. - Acquire the specifics of primary, secondary and tertiary health care for seniors in relation to their needs. - Acquire knowledge of functional geriatric examination. - Acquire knowledge in the specifics of individual clinical conditions in old age. - Acquire the skills of nursing care planning for seniors in health and illness using the nursing method process.
- The student has knowledge of extending the human age and the need for social support in providing care and assistance to seniors. - The student has knowledge in the differences of care for individual needs of seniors in the framework of the system of primary, secondary and tertiary health care. - The student is capable of basic assessment (assessment) of the current health affective condition of a senior. - The student has knowledge of standard assessment tools and tests in seniors. - The student has knowledge about specific clinical conditions in old age. - The student is able to provide nursing care for the elderly in the health of the illness using the nursing method process. - The student is capable of targeted education of senior, family / carers.
