Course content
1st week: Introduction to public health (definition, basic characteristics of the field and its brief history). 2nd week: The position of hygiene among medical sciences. Hygiene care and hygiene service. Basic hygiene regulations. 3rd week: Hygiene of medical facilities. The scope of activities of the particular departments of RHS. 4th week: Prevention of diseases, health protection and promotion. Health and its determinants. Health education and its function. Health promotion in a family and at the workplace. 5th week: Public health in the Czech Republic and its expected trends. 6th week: The basic principles of organisation of providing health care worldwide, principles of foreign health systems. Funding of health care in the Czech Republic, an introduction to economics and insurance, the system of common health insurance in the Czech Republic. European regional programme Health 2020. 7th week: General epidemiology - basic terms. 8th week: An introduction to general microbiology, bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology. General virology - morphology of a virus, prionities, flu. General bacteriology - morphology of a bacterial cell, salmonelosis. 9th week: Antibiotics and chemotherapeutics - basic terms. 10th week: An introduction to hygiene. Decontamination, sterilisation and disinfection in health facilities. 11th week: Nosocomial infections. 12th week: An introduction to immunology. An overwiev of antibody and cell immunities, immunological lab methods, disorders of immunity and the possibility of medical influence in the functioning of the immune system. Natural and acquired immunity. Immunisation.

" Students will learn about the complex problems of state health policy, and receive an introduction to economics and insurance, public health with the intention of health determinants, health prevention and promotion, and health education " Students will receive an introduction to microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene, morphology of microorganisms and their pathogenic effects on humans, how infections are transmitted, the type of an infection, problems of nosocomial infections and an introduction to immunology
" Students are acquainted with basic health systems and general health-social prevention. " Students are acquainted with basic funding of health services, economics and insurance " Students are ready to perform prevention of infectious diseases with the aim of preventing their occurrence and transmission " Students are able to keep the barrier regime in connection with the occurrence and prevention of nosocomial infections " Students are acquainted with the necessary practical procedures during collection and transport of an infectious material to the lab " Students use the necessary knowledge to provide qualitative nursing care to infectious patients
