Course content
Lectures: 1. Social medicine and public health as a scientific discipline and a subject of teaching. 2. Theory of health and disease. Determinants of health. 3. Basic goals of health development in the world. World Health Organization and its role. 4. European health care strategy. National strategies for the protection and promotion of health and disease prevention. 5. Health care system. Medical preventive care (methods, components, rules of provision). 6. Importance of information and feedback. Health information system. 7. Quality and safety of health care. Health policy. Health care systems around the world and their reforms. Health status of the population. 8. Demography and demographic methods. Population problems in our country and in the world. Health protection and promotion. 9. Prevention and its importance (prevention of primary, secondary, tertiary; dispensary care, preventive inspections, screening). 10. Public health insurance. Public Health Insurance Act and its implementing legislation. Healthcare workers (rights and obligations, status, education). Mandatory secrecy. Seminars: Students will develop and present assigned topics that relate to current issues of public health and follow up on the issues discussed in lectures. 1. Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the complex issues of public health care strategy and policy. After completing the cycle, students will be able to understand the issues of strengthening health and the prevention of disease through organized efforts of society.
Students should be able to orientate themselves in the basics of health systems, general health and social prevention.

The student masters the issues outlined in the required literature and lectures. 90% participation in seminars. Preparation and presentation of a seminar work. Written test + oral exam
