Course content
Lectures: 1. Cell as a biophysical system Biophysics of tissues and organs (bones and joints, muscles, cardiovascular system, respiration, excretory system, digestive system, electrical and magnetic properties of tissues) 2. Biophysics of reception and processing of information (perception of chemical stimuli, acoustic signals, light stimuli) Biophysics of environmental factors (effects of mechanical factors, acoustic factors, influence) meteorological conditions on the organism, effects of electric currents, effects of magnetic fields, effects non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, biological effects of ionizing radiation, nuclear weapons) 3. Biological signals. Biocybernetics, thermodynamics (heat, temperature, thermal comfort of the organism Biomechanics (blood circulation, respiration, movement system, effects of mechanical forces on the organism) 4. Biophysics of electrical effects and effects (electric current, transport mechanisms, membrane potentials, effects of electric current on the organism, electromagnetic field, electrical physicochemical methods) Optics and biophysics of vision (properties of radiation, sources and radiation detectors) 5. Acoustics, ultrasound, X-rays Biophysical basics of non-invasive treatment methods (mechanical energy-using methods, electro-therapeutic methods, magnetic field treatment principles, heat treatment methods, light treatments, physical principles of ionizing radiation treatment) 6. Biophysical principles of invasive treatment methods (physical principles of modern surgical instruments, physical principles of main dental instruments, devices supporting or replacing organ function Exercises: 1st - 2nd week: Detection and measurement of mechanical quantities, electrochemical analytical methods 3rd - 4th week: Biomechanics of the locomotor system Weeks 5 to 6: Protection against ionizing radiation, radiators used in radiotherapy 7th - 8th week: Temperature measurement - thermometry, use of thermal energy in medicine Week 9: Therapeutic methods and procedures using mechanical energy 10th week: Use of action potential in diagnosis 11th week: Phototherapy, hearing disorders and hearing. Physical principles of X-ray examination methods and radiotherapy
