Course content
Lectures (2 two-hour blocks): 1. - 2. Structure of the electron shell of an atom, periodic table 3. - 4. Chemical bond, structure of molecules, intermolecular interactions 5. - 6. Kinetic theory of gases, ideal and real gas, transformations of states of matters 7. - 8. Basic concepts and relations of thermodynamics, thermochemistry 9. - 10. Reaction kinetics, chemical equilibrium, phase equilibria 10. - 11. Properties of solutions. 12. - 13. Protolytic reactions, Salts, Buffers 14. Redox reactions, basics of electrochemistry Training (2 two-hour blocks): 1-2. Calculations of solution composition 3. pH calculations 4. Spectrophotometric determination of concentration, Lambert-Beer's law 5. Potentiometric determination of pH, ion-selective electrodes 6. Titration with conductometric indication of equivalence point 7. Credit test

Learning outcomes
Basic course of general and physical chemistry.
At the end of the course, students possess the knowledge of general and physical chemistry necessary for understanding the chemical principles applied in other subjects, especially biochemistry, and understand the properties of solutions and general physicochemical laws.
