Course content
Lectures: 1. - 2. Pedagogy as a science - definition of the term, relation of pedagogy to other sciences, structure of the field. Educational reality - basic concepts and relationships. 3. - 4. Educational process and the determinants of education. Definition and formulation of educational goals and application in the profession of midwives. Connections and types of learning. Learning styles. 5. - 6. Subject and object of education. Personality of a midwife as an educator. Special approaches in the education of clients with physical and sensory disabilities. 7. - 8. Definition and formulation of educational goals and application in the profession of midwives. Organizational forms of education. Didactic resources. 9. -10. Design and evaluation of the educational process in the field of midwives. Methods used in pedagogical research. Seminars: 1. Educational processes in the field of health care, didactic means, educational environment. 2. Creating educational plans. 3. Methods of client's education, educational plan. 4. Evaluation of the effectiveness of education. 5. Personality of a midwife as an educator. The personality of the client as an object of education. 6. Areas of health support and prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary prevention, determinants of health), methods of health education and their use. 7. The role of midwives in health education and prevention. Health and illness; environment; lifestyle; health indicators; major health problems throughout life; lifelong health support; adaptation mechanisms to stress. 8. Basic methods in individual and group work of midwives in preventive and educational care. 9. Excursion to a selected preventive care facility. 10. Models of educational preventive care in the field of midwifery

Learning outcomes
The course is theoretical and practical and focuses on basic information from the field of pedagogy. It defines the specifics of the educational work that midwives do with women and children. Students will be acquainted with the relationship between the education of clients and health issues. Consequently, students are able to apply theoretical knowledge of pedagogy in their educational activities with clients and their neighbours. Part of the course is an e-learning course (for the full-time study programme available as Educational activities of midwives (AEDUP - ZS) http://moodle.zsf.jcu.cz/course/view.php?id=364, which is actively linked with both lectures and training sessions.
The student: - defines the basic concepts and relationships in pedagogy, and the factors of the educational process in nursing - analyses the relationship between pedagogy and the education of clients in midwifery - describes theories and specifics of client education - explains teaching strategies with regard to the developmental stages and disabilities of clients - knows the principles and specifics of communication in education and teaching - designs and develops education plans for clients or their neighbours
