Course content
Lectures: 1.- 2. Communication as a nursing skill - procedure, technique, structure, types, types of communication (transactional analysis), verbal communication, nonverbal communication, paralinguistics, communication process 3.- 4. Communication in the stages of the nursing process (interview), communication skills, therapeutic communication, counselling, group work, dignity, identity, respect, tolerance in communication, compassion, empathy 5.- 6. Self-awareness - emotions and communication, aggressive communication, (documentation, teaching, management, electronic communication, presentation), communication patterns, difficult communication styles 7. -8. Nursing communication with clients in crisis situations, dying clients and their relatives 9. -10. Alternative concepts and models of care related to the nurse's communication skills and satisfaction of the need for security and safety: Basal stimulation, Snoozeling, Sensory activation, Validation method, Psycho-biographical model of care by E. Böhm Training: 1.- 2. Introduction to a group, eye and haptic contact, first impression, the principles of social communication, oral self-presentation, reflection and self-reflection training 3.- 4. The difference between the perception of verbal and nonverbal expression, labelling theory 5.- 8. Training nonverbal techniques/proxemics, facial expressions, eye contact, position, gesticulation, posturology, kinetics, haptics, basic elements of basal stimulation 9.-12. Training in verbal techniques/speech, paralinguistics 13.-14. Motivation to communicate, active and passive listening 15.-16. Assertive communication 17.-18. Aggression in nursing, communication with an aggressive patient 19.-20. Empathy, therapeutic conversation

Learning outcomes

The student: - can describe the theory of communication - can explain self-reflection - uses effective communication skills for providing care in midwifery and in a multidisciplinary team - is familiar with therapeutic communication and crisis situations (an aggressive person, a dying a person experiencing a loss)

90% attendance of seminars, Moodle knowledge test, individual interview, demonstration of model situations with reflexion, communicative situation analysis from literature of the student's choice
