Course content
Exercises: 1. Communication with a troubled patient 2. Effective communication in the treatment of non-cooperating clients, anxious and depressed clients, motivation in communication, communication with an aggressive patient 3. Communication with an aggressive patient 4. Communication with a manipulative patient 5. Communication with a person with suicidal intentions 6. Communication with a person with a physical disability 7. Communication with a person with a sensory disability 8. Communication with a person in crisis 19. Communication with family members of patients 10. Effective communication in the treatment of a dying patient, delivering bad news, verbal and nonverbal communication skills in the treatment of an unconscious patient

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical - practical unit. Lectures offer insight into the professional skills needed for establishing contacts and gaining the trust of the client/patient. It leads to the acquisition of the theoretical principles of adequate communication with clients (with regard to their health, somatic, mental, and social condition) and with co-workers. It also outlines the importance of therapeutic communication in crisis situations (e.g. an aggressive person, a dying person, a person experiencing a loss).
The student: - can describe the theory of communication - can explain self-reflection - uses effective communication skills for providing care in midwifery and in a multidisciplinary team - is familiar with therapeutic communication and crisis situations (an aggressive person, a dying a person experiencing a loss)

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Analysis of creative work (musical, visual, literary)

90% attendance of seminars, Moodle knowledge test, individual interview, demonstration of model situations with reflexion, communicative situation analysis from literature of the student's choice
