Course content
Content: 2/SS Lectures: 1. Anatomical and physiological changes in the sextuplet. Physical examination in the puerperium. 2. Lactation - importance, lactation on the day of birth, in the first days after birth, breastfeeding techniques, breast care, prevention of complications. 3. Lifestyle of a woman in her puerperium, social and legal issues in the postpartum period. 4.5. Pathological sextuplets. Seminars: 1. Physical examination in puerperium by a midwife. 2. Midwife care for a woman during lactation. 3. (1.5 hours) Midwife care for women with physiological and pathological course of puerperium. 4. Midwife care for women in the sixth week after the operative termination of childbirth, therapeutic physical education for women during puerperium.

Learning outcomes
It is a profiling professional theoretical and practical course that provides students with comprehensive knowledge about caring for pregnant women and mothers. It focuses on the individual satisfaction of the bio-psycho-social needs of a pregnant woman, on the quality of her life, on the support of her health and the prevention of diseases and complications related to pregnancy. Students will learn the principles of physiological childbirth management and systematic care in midwifery (with a special attention to meeting the bio-psycho-social needs of the mother). The course provides comprehensive knowledge about caring for a woman during her puerperium. It focuses on the individual satisfaction of the bio-psycho-social needs of the puerperium, on the wellbeing of women, and on prevention of diseases and complications connected with puerperium. The course also introduces the irregularities that may occur during childbirth. It enables the acquisition of practical skills for the management of irregular childbirth - interventions and general care in midwifery for the individual needs of a woman during this clinical condition.
The student: - characterizes physiological pregnancy, its symptoms and symptomatology - characterizes the diagnosis and screening of pregnancy - identifies the needs of a pregnant woman - adequately educates a pregnant woman/family - performs physical examination of the mother - assesses the cardiotocographic record during childbirth - cares for a woman at all stages of childbirth - conducts physiological childbirth independently - applies the latest knowledge of natural childbirth management - applies an ethical and psychological approach to the mother - defines the period of puerperium - lists changes in the female body during puerperium - performs physical examination of a woman in her puerperium - defines the importance of breastfeeding for both women and children - demonstrates correct positions during breastfeeding - educates a woman about the care of birth injuries - demonstrates appropriate exercises for women during puerperium - characterizes changes in pregnancy as a precondition for possible pathology - identifies individual symptoms in high-risk pregnancy - adequately educates women with high-risk and pathological pregnancy - characterizes assistance in urgent care when the risk turns to pathology - assesses irregularities in all periods of childbirth - recognizes pathological positions of the foetus - is able to communicate adequately during childbirth (with the mother and accompanying persons) - defines irregularities during pregnancy - provides care for women in cases of irregular childbirth
