Course content
Lectures: 1. Risk and pathological pregnancy; cardiovascular diseases in pregnancy. 2. Lung diseases in pregnancy, blood diseases in pregnancy, Rh incompatibility, hemotherapy. 3. Diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract in pregnancy; diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in pregnancy. 4. Diabetes mellitus in pregnancy, hypertension in pregnancy, preeclamspia, eclampsia. 5. Thrombotic conditions and embolism in pregnancy. 6. Infectious diseases - zoonoses in pregnancy, drugs, alcohol and smoking in pregnancy. 7. Malignant diseases in pregnancy, sudden abdominal events in pregnancy. 8. Neurological diseases in pregnancy, psychiatric diseases in pregnancy. 9. Skin and immunological diseases in pregnancy. 10. Dystocia of soft parts - irregularities of uterine contractions, cervical dystocia; maternity irregularities mechanism - irregularities in the position of the head, holding anomalies, position anomalies. 11. Irregular and pathological positions of the foetus. 12. Umbilical cord irregularities; irregularities of amniotic fluid and amniotic membranes; irregularities of the placenta. 13. Infections during childbirth. 14. Intrauterine asphyxia - foetal stress, including foetal bleeding; post haemorrhagic shock of the newborn, intrauterine death of foetus. 15. Irregularities during pregnancy. 16. Multiple pregnancies - delivery of multiple foetuses. 17. Pathology after childbirth - disorders of placental separation, bleeding during separation; bleeding after complete uterine emptying - coagulopathy, hyperfibrinolysis, uterine inversion. 18. Obstetric shock; maternal birth injuries. Seminars: 1. Individualized care for pregnant women with irregular pregnancy. Procedures and examination methods in obstetrics assistance necessary to identify high-risk and pathological pregnancy. Searching for information in world databases on relevant issues. 2. Midwifery care for women with cardiovascular disease, lung disease, blood diseases and with Rh incompatibility. 3. Midwifery care for women with kidney and urinary tract diseases. 4. Midwifery care for women with gastrointestinal diseases, women with liver diseases, women with diabetes mellitus. 5. Midwifery care for women with hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia. 6. Midwifery care for women with thrombotic conditions and embolism. 7. Care in midwifery in women with infectious diseases - zoonoses and in women with addiction - drugs, alcohol, smoking. 8. Midwifery care in women with a malignant disease, a sudden abdominal event (including GEU). 9. Midwifery care in women with neurological, psychiatric, skin, and immunological diseases. 10. Midwifery care in women with irregular and pathological positions of the foetus during pelvic delivery. 11. Midwifery care in women with umbilical cord irregularities, intervention in prolapse; with foetal water irregularities; with placental irregularities; in premature placental separation; in placental retention. 12. Midwifery care for women with an infection during childbirth. 13. - 14. Midwifery care for clients with intrauterine asphyxia of the foetus; with intrauterine necrosis; training communication skills. 15. Midwifery care for clients with a premature birth, or with a prolonged birth. 16 Midwifery care for clients during multiple birth. 17. Midwifery care for clients with failure of postpartum haemostasis mechanisms; with hypotension, and uterine atony. 18. Midwifery care for clients with preeclampsia during childbirth.

Learning outcomes
It is a profiling professional theoretical and practical course that provides students with comprehensive knowledge about caring for pregnant women and mothers. It focuses on the individual satisfaction of the bio-psycho-social needs of a pregnant woman, on the quality of her life, on the support of her health and the prevention of diseases and complications related to pregnancy. Students will learn the principles of physiological childbirth management and systematic care in midwifery (with a special attention to meeting the bio-psycho-social needs of the mother). The course provides comprehensive knowledge about caring for a woman during her puerperium. It focuses on the individual satisfaction of the bio-psycho-social needs of the puerperium, on the wellbeing of women, and on prevention of diseases and complications connected with puerperium. The course also introduces the irregularities that may occur during childbirth. It enables the acquisition of practical skills for the management of irregular childbirth - interventions and general care in midwifery for the individual needs of a woman during this clinical condition.
The student: - characterizes physiological pregnancy, its symptoms and symptomatology - characterizes the diagnosis and screening of pregnancy - identifies the needs of a pregnant woman - adequately educates a pregnant woman/family - performs physical examination of the mother - assesses the cardiotocographic record during childbirth - cares for a woman at all stages of childbirth - conducts physiological childbirth independently - applies the latest knowledge of natural childbirth management - applies an ethical and psychological approach to the mother - defines the period of puerperium - lists changes in the female body during puerperium - performs physical examination of a woman in her puerperium - defines the importance of breastfeeding for both women and children - demonstrates correct positions during breastfeeding - educates a woman about the care of birth injuries - demonstrates appropriate exercises for women during puerperium - characterizes changes in pregnancy as a precondition for possible pathology - identifies individual symptoms in high-risk pregnancy - adequately educates women with high-risk and pathological pregnancy - characterizes assistance in urgent care when the risk turns to pathology - assesses irregularities in all periods of childbirth - recognizes pathological positions of the foetus - is able to communicate adequately during childbirth (with the mother and accompanying persons) - defines irregularities during pregnancy - provides care for women in cases of irregular childbirth
