Course content
Week 1 (4 hours) Disinfection (aids in nursing practice, individual types of disinfection, higher degree of disinfection). Sterilization (individual types of sterilization, packaging for sterilization, expiration, control of sterilization efficiency). Barrier nursing care (nosocomial infections, anti-epidemic regime, hand care, barrier nursing care for children with infectious diseases, nursing of immunocompromised children). Dressing technique (dressing material, dressing material preparation, dressing application, dressing technique = scarf, patch, slingshot, bandage, bandage of the lower limb). Compressive therapy. Week 2 (4 hours) Laundry. Bed (basic bed equipment, bed adjustment lengthwise, widthwise, specialized beds, auxiliary facilities). Nursing unit, room equipment, signalling, prevention of hospitalism in children. Admission, transfer, discharge. Therapeutic and examination positions. Week 3 (4 hours) Hygienic care (morning toilet, full bath, hair washing, oral care, dressing for children, specifics of hygienic care for children of different age groups). Skin care of the child, prevention of skin integrity disturbance. Specific skin care of a child with atopic eczema. Week 4 (4 hours) Issue of wounds and pressure sores (origin, classification, predilection sites, evaluation and diagnostics). Manipulation with patients (positioning a child with hemiparesis, kinesthetics in nursing, positioning, training of walking a child with DMO, walking with crutches, compensatory aids facilitating the child's movement). Week 5 (4 hours) Eating (food composition, calculation of BMI, alternative nutritional directions, uniform dietary system, special diets, nutritional history, nutritional screening, compensatory aids, diet for children and diabetics). Physiological functions (consciousness, TT, BP, D, P, pulse oximetry, ECG.) Week 6 (4 hours) Stool evacuation (stool evacuation disorders, digital stool equipment, incontinence). Enema (individual enema types) Stoma care. Aids for incontinent patients (video, practical training). Week 7 (4 hours) Urine evacuation (urine evacuation disorders, incontinence, urinary ducts). Catheterization (women, men, children, bladder irrigation, suprapubic catheter). Aids for incontinentce(video, practical training). Week 8 (4 hours) General principles of drug administration to children (forms, oral, rectal, nose, throat, ear, eye, vagina, skin). Specifics of drug administration to children of all ages. Drug handling, ordering, storage, expiration. Principles of opiate ordering, storage, preparation and administration. Week 9 (4 hours) Guidelines for Drug Administration i.d., s.c. General principles of oxygen therapy and inhalation. Specifics of drug delivery via i.d. and s.c. in children of all ages. Specific principles of oxygen therapy and inhalation in children of all ages. Week 10 (4 hours) General principles of injection i.m., i.v. Specific principles of injection i.m. and i.v. in children of all ages.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and skills in the area of saturation of basic needs of children of all ages, and knowledge and skills for performing practical activities - with an orientation on children of all ages.
The student will acquire knowledge and skills in the area of saturation of basic needs of children of all ages. The student will acquire knowledge and skills for performing interventions in children of all ages. The student will acquire theoretical knowledge to perform interventions in the area of dependent and independent nursing activities. The student will learn practical implementation of the "holistic care" of children, understand the importance of satisfying the need for comfort, respect, security and safety of children of all ages. The student will acquire manual skills to perform individual nursing interventions for children of all ages. The student will realize the consequences of unprofessional interventions in providing individual nursing care. The student will learn to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions. The student will learn to perform interventions in the area of nursing dependent activities, i.e. diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

90% attendance in seminars, initiative and activity in class, self-study and home preparation for given topics, presentation of assigned topic, credit test.
