Course content
Seminars: 1. (1.5 hrs) Uniform first aid procedure: pre-medical first aid, emergency services. Emergency call, communication with the control centre, procedure after the arrival of professional assistance. 2. (1.5 hrs) Basic emergency resuscitation according to the new CPR procedures issued by the European Resuscitation Council: airway patency, indirect cardiac massage, automated external defibrillation (AED). Emergency resuscitation of children. 3. (1.5 hrs) Consciousness disorders. 4. (1.5 hours) Wounds. Haemostasis. External, arterial, venous, mixed, internal bleeding, bleeding from body openings. Shock. 5. (1.5 hrs) Skull, brain, spine and spinal cord injuries, chest and abdomen injuries. 6. (1.5 hrs) Injury of musculoskeletal system, bone fracture, injuries of joints, muscles. 7. (1.5 hrs) Chemical injuries: burns to skin, mucous membranes, eyes, burns to mouth and throat, esophagus and stomach. Inhalation of suffocating and irritating substances. 8. (1.5 hrs) Thermal injuries: burns, frostbite (symptoms, first aid). Electric shock. 9. (1.5 hrs) Selected acute conditions (Polytrauma, unconsciousness, sudden stroke, intoxication, metabolic disorders). 10. (1.5 hrs) Selected acute conditions (Chest pain, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia).

Learning outcomes
To acquaint students with the general fundamentals of pathophysiology of emergency states, their recognition and provision of basic aid. Emphasis is placed on rapid identification of the problem, quick orientation in the situation, making the right decision and providing adequate assistance until the handover of the patient to healthcare professionals. Being able to identify the status of vital indication. Knowledge and skills in life-threatening conditions. To acquaint students with work in a multidisciplinary team.
The student has the skills and knowledge of practical pre-medical first aid. The student knows the principles of pre-medical first aid. The student knows the principles of transporting the wounded in the field, at home and in medical facilities. The student can identify the status of vital indication. The student has knowledge and skills in life-threatening conditions. The student is familiar with working in a multidisciplinary team.
