Course content
Lectures: (1 hour per week - 10 weeks) 1st - 2nd week Chronic Intensive Care Unit (primary diagnosis, pharmacotherapy, instrumentation, material equipment, staffing, documentation, legislation) Week 3 - 4 Vegetative state (causes, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment, complications, prognosis, palliative care, follow-up care options) Week 5 - 6 Immobility and immobilization syndrome. Effect of immobility on individual organ systems, techniques and methods of preventing immobilization syndrome. Management of complications resulting from immobilization syndrome. Week 7 - 8 Management of discharge of a patient in a vegetative state to home care Week 9 - 10 Home artificial pulmonary ventilation (indications for DUPV, forms, complications, legislation, DUPV project, oxygen therapy). Seminars: (1 hour per week - 10 weeks) 1st - 2nd week Chronic Intensive Care Unit (CICU, DIP, DIOP, NIP) - goals of hospitalization and nursing process, prevention of secondary changes. Physical and psychological demands of highly specialized nursing care. Needs of a patient hospitalized in OCHRIP, DIP, DIOP, NIP - hygiene care, prevention of decubitus, nutrition (swallowing training, nursing care of PEG and PEJ), elimination - highly specialized nursing care. Week 3 - 4 Highly specialized nursing care of the airway of a patient admitted to OCHRIP, DIP, DIOP, NIP (tracheostomy/complicated tracheostomy care, airway toileting, VAP prevention, airway medication administration, weaning, non-invasive ventilation, respiratory function assessment) Week 5 - 6 Needs of the patient hospitalized in the OCHRIP, DIP, DIOP, NIP - need to be pain-free, need for sleep and rest, psychosocial needs, communication with the patient and family. Basal stimulation of patients in intensive care (meaning of the concept, implementation of the concept in nursing care, practical training, use of kinesthetics in basal therapy, family's contribution to the care of a person in DIOP) Week 7 - 8 Rehabilitation in intensive care (positioning, passive/active, breathing, special rehabilitation for selected diagnoses, verticalization of patients, rehabilitation plan for the chronically ill, education for self-sufficiency, aids, documentation). Week 9 - 10 Management of discharge of a patient in a vegetative state to home care - competencies of the caregiver, transfer of information, and education of the caregiver before discharge

The student understands the concept of long-term intensive nursing care " The student knows the issues of highly specialized care of patients in the ICU " The student knows how to provide complex, highly specialized nursing care for the patient with impaired consciousness " The student understands the issues involved in complex, highly specialized nursing care of patients requiring UPV, including risks, and associated complications and participates in their management " The student masters the methods of communication with the UPV patient " The student knows how to care for the patient in a vigilant coma, " The student is familiar with immobility and immobilization syndrome in intensive care and knows how to prevent changes " The student understands the concept of perceptual stimulation and its application in critical care. " The student applies the concept of perceptual stimulation in working practices. " The student understands rehabilitation in long-term intensive care " The student understands the management of discharge of a patient in a vegetative state to home care " The student understands the issues of home artificial pulmonary ventilation " The student can apply psychological approaches and communication techniques in interpersonal relationships.
