Course content
Ethics of clinical research, Declaration of Helsinki, and legislatition regulating clinical research Declaration of Helsinki, its origin and further development. Bio-ethical convention and its application to the Czech healthcare law. Ethical committees, their roles and composition. Integrity of a research study protection of the subjects of the study. Ethics of publication of professional texts and duty of publishing research results. Problem of maintaining human dignity in medicine and research. Philosophy of nursing ethics. Philosophy and psychology of care. Overview of basic theories of morals. Medical ethics. Nursing ethics. Specifics of nursing ethics. Importance and tasks of nursing ethics. Patient rights, informed consent in clinical medicine and research. Problem of decision making on the termination of life, euthanasia, assisted suicide. Ethical dilemmas of assisted reproduction, research performed using embryos and cloning, the problem of stem cells.

Learning outcomes
The lectures will based on the Declaration of Helsinki, students will be made acquainted with the ethical problems of research. Furthermore, the Europeal Council Convention on Human Rights ratified by the Czech Republic in 2001 will be discussed. This Convention is pervaded by the basic principle - free decision making on the right for physical integrity and inviolability of a human being. With regard to clinical ethics, nursing ethics will be discussed more deeply. The subject is based on the knowledge acquired in the bachelor and master degree programs. The knowledge of theoretical ethics and the ability to hold an ethical discourse refined. Other hot topics of healthcare ethics will be mentioned.
