Learning outcomes
The subject is designed as a theoretical and practical subject and supposes an application of knowledge acquired in other nursing, behavioral and humanitarian subjects. Students will learn how to deal with scientific material obtained from scientific publications and EBN, and how to apply this knowledge to selected specialties, e.g. to hospice care, home care or somewhere else in the community. The subject supposes a certain level of creativity, a clinical experience, the ability to recognize the patient`s values and to use the available tools. Students will learn the essentials of critical and scientific thinking: they will learn to understand the need and importance of a scientific approach to nursing practice, to apply critical thinking to nursing practice, to recognize the influencing factors and their influence on clinical decisions. They will learn to apply scientific information to nursing decision making during the nursing process. Furthermore, students will learn to formulate clinical questions, to identify the most accessible sources of information for the evidence-based nursing practice, to look up studies relevant for the topic (systematic overviews, meta-analyses, clinical controlled and randomized studies, prospective studies, case studies, control studies, crossectional studies, case studies), to assess the validity of studies according to evidence rules and to perform a subsequent selection, to summarize the results in a clear form or using meta-analyses, to include patioents into decision making processes, to implement changes in practice, and to use them for further research according to the specialization.

Students will develop a presentation of their seminar theses (projects), the structure of which reflects the evidence-based practice (6 steps, including a graph and an analysis of references) - mainly for the topic that is closely related to the thesis. The discussion within the examination will be focused on the selected topic and the way of processing the topic including a critical reflection associated with the transfer of the evidence-based practice to the Czech environment. The seminar thesis will be in the range of approximately 20 pages (A4, line spacing 1, Times New Roman 12).
