Course content
Lectures: 1. Urgent symptomatology (eg shortness of breath, chest pain, haematemesis) 2. Diagnostics acute and critical conditions 3. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (adult, child) 4. Cardiovascular disorders (adult, child) 5. CNS disorders (adult, child) 6. Respiratory system disorders (adult, child) 7. GIT Disorders (Adult, Child) 8. Renal impairment (adult, child) 10.Diseases of the endocrine system (hyper and hypofunction of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, diabetes) (adult, child) 11.Intoxication and drug addiction 12. Polytrauma Tutorials: 1. (3 hours) Introduction to acute and critical conditions. Concept of anesthesia and intensive care. Emergency. Admission of the patient on ICU - provision of the patient, role of the nurse. Psychosocial situations of adult clients and children hospitalized at ARO and ICU. Instrumentation and personnel equipment on ICU a- handling of instrumentation. 2. (3 hours) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in hospital care - organization, role of nurse 3. (3 hours) Ensuring breathing on ICU. Nursing care of the airways. Practical training 4. (3 hrs) Monitoring of vital functions on ICU - role of nurse 5. (3 hours) Preparing the patient for urgent surgery. Role of anesthetist nurses in the operating room - general and local anesthesia 6. (3 hours) Acute conditions in neurosurgery and traumatology. Caring for organ donors. Transplantation Act.

Learning outcomes
This course provides students with the knowledge of nursing care for patients in acute and critical condition. Students will become familiar with urgent and emergency situations in a medical facility, the successful solution of the nurses put a high demand skills. In this course, students focus on specific moments of nursing activities and knowledge of resuscitation and intensive care, that create conditions for successful cooperation nurses with doctors and other health workers.
The student is able to identify the status of vital indication The student disposes of knowledge and skills for life-endangering conditions The student is acquainted with work in multidisciplinary team The student is able to provide urgent care theoretically The student is acquainted with particularities of nursing care for acute conditions in neurosurgery, traumatology, surgery and internal medicine. The student shows knowledge of particularities of nursing care of acute conditions in neurosurgery, traumatology, surgery and internal medicine. The student is able to establish nursing diagnoses and to plan nursing care for patients in acute condition The student is able to elaborate plan of nursing care for patients with acute disease The student has theoretical knowledge of instrumentation at life-support system and intensive care unit. The student is able to monitor vital functions of patients in acute condition. The student is able to describe theoretically the preparation of patient for urgent operation intervention. The student is able to describe the role of anesthetist nurse in operating room. The student is able to interconnect theoretical and practical skills and attitudes within care for patients in acute condition.
