Course content
Basic structure of teaching of clinical conditions: A. Medical part (diagnostics and treatment): 1. Charakteristics of clinical condition and etiology 2. Signs and symptomatology 3. Diagnostic tests and examinations 4. Medicine management B. Nursing part (care): 5. Assessment of individual clinical condition and needs of client / patient 6. Nursing diagnoses and interventions 7. Standard plan of nursing care 8. Implementation of care according to plan 9. Education of client - family 10. Evaluation of results achieved in change of health condition of client / patient 11. Provision for continuity of treatment and care Lectures: 1. Epidemiology of malignant disease; risk factors (tobacco, alcohol, work environment, radiation, diet, viruses, drugs, etc.). classification of tumors according to tissue type. TNM classification system tumors (depth of invasion, proliferation, size) 2. Primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary prevention, their importance for prognosis, early warning signs of malignancy. 3. Diagnosis and treatment of malignant disease: surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, biological therapy. 4. Radiotherapy: the main symptoms of side effects (early, late, very late) on individual tissues and organs, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, care and dietary measures. 5. Chemotherapy: main symptoms of side effects, their diagnosis, prevention, treatment, care and dietary measures. 6. Onclogy acute conditions (hypercalcaemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, septic shock, spinal cord compression, pericardial tamponade, superior vena cava syndrome, tumor lysis syndrome, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion disorders). Management of pain in cancer patients. 7. Tertiary care organization and its services to the needs of oncology patients (hospital, hospice, home care). Seminars: according to standard plans of care 1.Care for skin during radiation therapy. 2. Changes in nutrition of oncological patients. 3. NC for patient with changed immunity of organism, high risk of infection NC for patient with signs of bleeding (in thrombocytopenia after chemotherapy) and with anemia (at reduced blood capacity of oxygen transfer in tumour diseases). 4.NC for patient with alopecia (after radiation therapy, chemotherapy). NC for patient with changes on mucosa of oral cavity (after chemotherapy, radiation therapy), 5. NC for patient with nausea and vomiting (at oncological treatment). 6. NC for patient with obstipation and diarrhea (at oncological treatment), NC for patient with sexual dysfunction (at oncological treatment). 7. NC for patient with pain (at oncological treatment).

Learning outcomes
The subject is conceived as theoretical-practical unit for nurses. Informs about the importance of primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary cancer prevention, the etiological and predisposing factors and the statistical occurrence of individual types of cancer. Introduces differences in character and institutions for the care and treatment of oncological patients. Interpretation of various types of cancer treatment, its potential toxicity. Follow information on the individual clinical circumstances that significantly affect the quality of life of cancer sick person and his family. In side effects of cancer treatment is important their prevention, diagnosis, treatment (dietary measures, local treatment, additional medications therapy, patient´s and his family education). The student will understand the differences of care for health and prevention of occurrence of malign diseases in population within primary care The student will understand the relationship between influence of risk factors and incidence of malign diseases The student will understand the differences of treatment of and care for oncological patients within the system of secondary care The student will understand the differences of treatment of and care for incurably ill and dying patients within the system of tertiary care The student will know the fundamentals of assessment (evaluation) of current clinical condition of patient. The student will know standard diagnostic procedures and tests of individual clinical conditions The student will get acquainted with standard physician's treatment and ordinations The student will be able to define nursing diagnoses and interventions The student will be able to plan individual nursing care for individual clinical conditions The student will understand therapeutic communication and pointed education of patient / family
The student is able to determine and defend interventions within nursing care for oncological patients The student is able to define principles of efficient communication in nursing process Students can describe the stages of the educational process in support of health care for the population in the primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary prevention The student knows causes and signs of oncological diseases The student is well versed in diagnostic testing and examining of oncological patients The student is able to identify most suitable methods for leading of efficient education process and nursing process of care for oncological patients The student is able to determine diagnostic elements for individuals and group on the base of individual approach The student is able to develop continuously the abilities of application and integration of acquired knowledge, understanding and attitudes in approach to oncological patients and professional development The student is able to use competences for self-education in issues of oncological patients. The student is able to define and to classify the possibilities of research activity for professional development and ability of practical application The student is able to interconnect theoretical and practical skills and attitudes in the course of study The student masters skills to express attitudes in issues of care for oncological patients The student is able to demonstrate and to apply theoretical knowledge in nursing care for oncological patients (education towards health, education activity and care for patients) The student is able to apply practical skills in nursing care for oncological patients
Prerequisites
The student shows theoretical-practical knowledge and skills of clinical subjects of internal and surgical nursing and behavioral sciences. He or she is able to associate, process and apply the knowledge acquired in lessons flexibly in professional classrooms and at clinical workplace. Conditioning subjects: PPCH2, PVIO2, PVOD4, POPII

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Seminar work

Attendance to lectures and seminars. Fulfilment of pre-assigned tasks in seminars. Fulfilment of tasks assigned for home preparation - self-study (50 pages). Updating of study materials and references. Elaboration of seminar works, submission of and plea for seminar works. Participation in excursions. Training of practical skills in care for oncological patients.
