Course content
Lectures (1 lesson): 1. Introduction, aim and study methods. 2. History and development of humanitarian aid and development cooperation. 3. Goals and motivation of helping. 4. Humanitarian aid and implementation possibilities in the Czech Republic, the EU and the world. 5. Development cooperation, Czech Development Agency. 6. Psychosocial assistance as part of helping. 7. Involvement of international organizations in humanitarian aid and development cooperation: EU-ECHO, UN-UNDP, OCHA, NATO, IRCC. 8. Non-state non-profit organizations I. 9. Non-state non-profit organizations II. 10. Humanitarian aid in dealing with extraordinary events in the Czech Republic, emergency survival measures. 11. Volunteering as an element of help and cooperation. 12. Millennium Development Goals. Sustainable Development. 13. Cultural differences and safety. 14. Current issues in the field of humanitarian aid and development cooperation. Seminars (1 lesson): 1. Analysis of the selected legal regulation. 2. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to focus on humanitarian aid, as a tool to prevent loss of life and to alleviate human suffering caused by natural or anthropogenic disasters or armed conflict. Furthermore, it is also about aid to countries and regions affected by a long-term, complex humanitarian crisis.
The student will acquire knowledge of the basic forms and possibilities of implementing humanitarian aid and development cooperation as a tool to alleviate the suffering of affected people and preserve human dignity.
