Course content

Learning outcomes
The course offers students an insight into the issues of power, authority and influence in the context of the basic processes of the vertical structure of society (eg relationship: client - social worker, subordinate - superior). It will explain to them the decisive sources of power and its manifestations and consequences in the professional life of a social worker, especially in the management of health and social institutions.
The student will be able to theoretically define the concept of power, authority and powerlessness in organizations of the social and health spheres. They will be able to identify the risks of power, help and helplessness in social services and health care, they will be able to work with the topic in the context of the code of ethics. During the theoretical teaching, the student learns to find situations and topics of power, authority and helplessness, with which he can come to supervision, use reflection, evaluation and feedback obtained, provide evaluation and feedback to the supervision group. Students will accept the values and ethical principles of a social worker as a professional and will learn, for example, to perceive the method of supervision as a means of professional growth for their professional and personal life.

Credit - elaboration of a case study - the student demonstrates not only theoretical knowledge and is also capable of reflection and self-reflection. Other requirements - active student participation in seminars, reading and studying the required and recommended literature on the issue.
