Course content
1. Restoration justice concept as guidance for activities of probation and mediation service staff, humanity principle 2. Criminal justice and ideal concepts of social science 3. The term probation and mediation, tools of probation and mediation service personnel - active, passive, organizational structure and mission of probation services in Europe. 4. Outsets and conjunctions of probation and mediation introduction in CR 5. Activities of probation and mediation service in preliminary proceedings and within proceeding prior court process 6. Activities of probation and mediation service in execution proceeding 7. Types of alternative punishments and alternative measures 8. Performance of probation surveillance, the term probation program 9. Probation program for adults - Motivation programs ZZ, mentor, debt rehabilitation 10. Probation program for youth - Learning program - youth, Right for every day 11. Areas of mediation, limits and advantages of mediation. 12. Mediation process 13. Methodological rules for probation and mediation service procedures within mediation in criminal actions 14. Systematic procedure in mediation relation to youth, specifics of mediation with youth 1. Basic recommendations for a professional interview 2. Model situation of initial consultation within surveillance in trial period. 3. Practicing motivation interviews 4. Record of consultation with a client - transcript of part of the interview, reflection. 5. Application of alternative punishments - video 6. Preparation of documents for bodies active in criminal action, preparation of probation report prior decision 7. Parole - case reports 8. Mediation - individual meeting with a culprit and an aggrieved party, example of questions and subjects of discussion, work in pairs. 9. Mediation meeting - case reports 10. Practicing preparation Mediation outcome report 11. Mediation outcome report - highlighting specifics of youth clients 12. Visit of a mediation and probation centre 13. Learning outcomes
The subject is drawn as theoretical-practical and introduces students to the problems of mediation in social and probation work. Students are acquainted with the specifics of social work in criminal justice, especially for professional specialization in the field of probation and mediation activities, firstly in the extra-judicial settlement of disputes by professional negotiators and the alternative measures and alternative sanctions.
Students will learn about solutions in restorative justice, the basic theoretical concepts and specifics of social work in criminal justice. Students understand the basic concepts used in probation and mediation, will get an overview of methods and techniques of working probation officer. Students will learn procedures for dealing with conflict situations and will focus on the activities of the Probation and Mediation Service in the Czech Republic.
