Course content
Seminars 1-3. Scientific information and their sources. Processing of databases, literature search. Preparation of the topic of the diploma thesis (in accordance with the planned topic). Literature search (quotation systems: Endnote, Zotero, Mendeley, Docear, and others.) 4-5. Thesis topic and its choice in accordance with the specialty. Theoretical thesis background relating to the concept operationalization. . 6-7. Definition of basic thesis characteristics depending on the research strategies (qualitative, quantitative). Thesis structure. Goal, research questions, hypotheses. . Methodology. Dealing with the sample. Processing of study results. Basic aspects of constructing the discussion. Conclusion and suggestions for solutions. 8-9. Quotation norms. Formal lay-out of the thesis according to the Faculty`s requirements. Ethical aspects of the actual thesis, publication risks. Work with citation managers (especially www.citacepro.com and its connection with the citation standard according to the current measures of the Dean). 10-11. Examples of good practice. 12-14. Presentation of the thesis. Defence of the thesis including management of comments and reprimands.

Learning outcomes
The goal of the seminar is to extend the knowledge of processing scientific data (looking-up, analysis), and the ethical aspects of publishing. The seminar also includes a complex training of students for the processing their theses or other research studies - from the point of view of the topic choice, preparation of its processing (including the schedule, and/or a pilot study), the actual research study and result processing, discussion and conclusion.
Achieved competences Students acquire the competences of processing a thesis (or another research study) according the faculty`s requirements, of presenting it effectively, and of being oriented at scientific information resources of various types, including the ethic rules for publishing.
Prerequisites
Prerequisite for completing the course is the previous elaboration of the bachelor thesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
Analysis of the qualification work

Ungraded assessment: Seminar thesis 5-10 pages long with rules for scientific text followed - review level at least, also the rules set by the Faculty need to be followed as well. Defence of the seminar thesis with regard to its content and presentation of results. Examples of high-quality, already defended bachelor's and master's theses (only according to teachers' recommendations). Furthermore, access to SCOPUS and WEB of SCIENCE databases - at least in the university campus environment (eventually installing VPN from the JU website).
