Course content
Lectures: 1. Health and illness. Bio-psycho-social and spiritual perspective. 2. Variable factors influencing health and illness. 3. Health care system and health policy in the Czech Republic, health services. 4. Ethics and health care 5. WHO Health 21 Program, Health 2020 Program. 6. - 7. Quality of life. 8. - 9. Healthy lifestyle. 10. Disease prevention and health promotion. Lay first aid. 11. - 12. Social work in health care. Role of health and social worker. 13. - 14. Social determinants influencing health (children, adults, seniors). Seminars: 1. Basic classification of diseases, basic symptoms of diseases, diagnosis. 2. Risk factors affecting the origin of diseases. 3. Outpatient care, hospital care. 4. Ethics in health care, physician-patient relationship. 5. The practical impact of Health 21 and Health 2020 on health care and patients themselves. 6. - 7. Quality of life and its influence on health and social situation, evaluation of quality of life. 8. - 9. Influence of lifestyle on the origin of civilization diseases 10. Possibilities of disease prevention, strengthening health. Lay first aid. 11. - 12. Possibilities of cooperation of social worker and medical staff in order to improve the quality of life of patients 13. - 14. Basic characteristics of diseases in relation to the patient's age (childhood, adulthood, old age)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the system of health care and health policy in the Czech Republic, as well as with social determinants affecting health, quality of life and healthy lifestyle.
- The student is able to identify clients' needs at the bio-psycho-social and spiritual levels. - The student can distinguish factors influencing health and illness. - The student knows the system of health and social care in the Czech Republic. - The student knows the principles of ethical standards in health and social area - The student knows the code of ethics of social workers and understands the values in social work - The student practically applies the principles of the WHO Health 21 and Health 20 program - The student can practically apply lay first aid. - The student understands the individual roles within the multidisciplinary team and the position of the social / health-social worker in the team. - The student knows the social determinants affecting the health of children, adults and seniors

Oral examination, Test

The course is completed by credit and oral exam. Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes: - active preparation and work on seminars, credit test - successful completion of the oral exam.
