Course content
|
1. Historical roots of development co-operation: colonialism, decolonisation and the cold war 2. International institutions for help of development co-operation: world financial, economic, cultural and religious institutions, and The United Nations Organization 3. Possibilities of involvement into development co-operation: organizations in the area of humanitarian help on a national and international scale, foundations and funds supporting people in need 4. Humanitarian development and its different dimensions: sustainable life and development, development aims of millennium (project Millennium Development Goals) - particular aims in the area of development and reducing poverty 5. Humanitarian aid: solidarity with affected countries and areas 6. Development co-operation: development co-operation representing all activities trying to respond to long-term problems of poor countries; reasons, ways and forms of achievement 7. World trade: international organized fair trade (Fair Trade) and problems of its fulfilment 8. Historic approaches towards processes of globalisation: perception of developing processes which takes place in particular historical periods, geographical perception of globalisation 9. Economic development and globalisation: collection of processes leading to the interconnection of manufacturers and consumption on a worldwide scale with social and political impacts; internationalisation of world economy - national states, multinational corporations, global trade and consumption 10. Globalisation and cultural changes: processes supporting the homogeneity and diversity of cultural surrounding, lowering of cultural diversity on Earth, propagation of so-called global culture and its consequences 11. Local cultural surrounding in process of globalisation: strengthening of local politics, communities and identities (opposed process so-called location against globalisation 12. Uneven development of world: economic, ethnic, religious, ideological, political and cultural conflicts, main world foci of stress, terrorism 13. Poverty and wealth: different aspects and criteria of evaluation 14. Inequality in economic and social development: so-called divided world; international debt

Subject is drawn as theoretic-practical. It introduces listeners the problems of humanitarian help and global development education. It provides terminology layout which enables the orientation in particular sphere. -to inform about the lives of people in developing and developed countries -to understand the economic, social and political impacts -to realize the differences in economic and social situation of people in different places of the world -to learn how to respect the different opinions and prevention of prejudice formation (race, religious, xenophobe etc) -to understand the system thinking and search for context of world global problems -to develop critical thinking, possibilities of argumentation and discussion
Students will gain the skills of developing co-operation and humanitarian aid, which is carried out in the Czech Republic and abroad. They will also gain an overview about humanitarian organizations in the Czech Republic.
