Course content
1. Restoration justice concept as guidance for activities of probation and mediation service staff, humanity principle 2. Criminal justice and ideal concepts of social science 3. The term probation and mediation, tools of probation and mediation service personnel - active, passive, organizational structure and mission of probation services in Europe. 4. Outsets and conjunctions of probation and mediation introduction in CR 5. Activities of probation and mediation service in preliminary proceedings and within proceeding prior court process 6. Activities of probation and mediation service in execution proceeding 7. Types of alternative punishments and alternative measures 8. Performance of probation surveillance, the term probation program 9. Probation program for adults - Motivation programs ZZ, mentor, debt rehabilitation 10. Probation program for youth - Learning program - youth, Right for every day 11. Areas of mediation, limits and advantages of mediation. 12. Mediation process 13. Learning outcomes
The objective is to present to students philosophic and historical basis of alternative solution of criminal cases and the concept of restoration justice. Students will learn basic terms used in probation and mediation and will learn about the legal framework of application of alternative measures and punishments, including international comparison of probation and mediation systems. Also highlighted will be mediation application in amicable settlement of disputes.
The student will dispose of the knowledge on origin and development of probation and mediation in the context of social-political connections of the development of our country, knowledge on mission, goals and activities of Probation and mediation service as well as of mediators united in the Association of mediators of the Czech Republic. The student will have good grasp of principles of probation and mediation in social work, the requisites of paperwork of PMS and methodical instructions of PMS procedure approved in 2004 by the Minister of Justice. The student will know probation programs focused on the development of social skills of adults and youth. Practical demonstrations of mediation sessions will allow the student applying efficient principles of negotiation in the area of interpersonal relationships.
