Course content
Lectures: 1-2. The correlation between quantitative and qualitative methods. Ethics of qualitative research (privacy, informed consent, confidentiality, etc.). Subjectivity in a qualitative study. Validity and reliability of a qualitative study. 3-4. Interview as a method of qualitative research. Principles of the formation and administration of questions 5-6. The sample in a qualitative study. 6-7. Fixation of qualitative data. Data processing for analysis (reduction of the first order, time axes, etc.) Selected evaluation and interpretation methods of qualitative data in the individual types of qualitative research studies - an overview. Electronic data processing. 8. Case studies: definition, strategy of the sample formation, methods and techniques of data collection, practical examples. 9. Case studies - data analysis. 10. Biographic importance: definition, hermeneutics of an autobiographic narrative 11-12. Methods of data processing I: contrasting, clusters. 13-14. Grounded theory: definition, strategies of forming the sample, methods and techniques of data collection, practical examples, and evaluation and interpretation of qualitative data, the method of the grounded theory analysis Seminars (two-hour seminars) 1. Ethics of qualitative research studies: the most common mistakes and the ways of avoiding them 2. Reflexivity and processing of the subjectivity in qualitative research studies 3-4. Interview and data fixation in practice. 5-10. Open and axial pen/paper coding in Atlas.ti. Coding of the text and pictures. 11-14. Training of individual methods of data analysis: grounded theory, contrasting, clusters.

Learning outcomes
The goal of the subject is to acquire the capability of obtain and evaluate qualitative research data at the level of data analysis needed for the thesis.
Students acquire the knowledge of the principles of the qualitative study, the research ethics and possibilities of misinterpretation. Furthermore, students acquire the ability to construct the sample for a qualitative study, to prepare, take and fix an interview, and process the dialogue by selected methods.
