Course content
Lectures: 1-2. Definition of basic concepts in the field, risk groups. 3-4. Social exclusion as a multidimensional problem, causes, components and their manifestations. Social inequality. Consequences of social exclusion in the health and social area and the possibility of social work with them. Culture of poverty and critical directions in the concept of social exclusion. 5-6. Minorities and their constructions, ethnic minorities in the Czech Republic and their specifics. Identity, tolerance and intolerance. Approaches to minorities 7-8. Identity, tolerance and intolerance. Approaches to minorities. 9-10. Crisis phenomenon, crisis typology, crisis phases and compensation strategies. 11-12. Consequences of the crisis. Crisis intervention, goals, basic principles and guidelines. Types of crisis intervention and their use in examples of good practice in social work. 13-14. Persons released from school facilities for the performance of institutional or protective education and from the execution of detention and imprisonment as a vulnerable group. Seminars: 1-2. Spatial segregation and mechanisms of its origin. Consequences of spatial segregation. Case reports on selected examples from the region. 3-6. Examples of good practice of work with social exclusion. Excursions 7-8. Examples of good practice in working with minority groups. Excursions 9-10. Tools for solving the situation of persons dismissed from school facilities for the performance of institutional or protective education - model situations. 11-12. Tools for solving the situation of persons released from custody and serving a custodial sentence - model situations. 13-14. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts and starting points in the field of social exclusion, crisis and ethnic minorities. Students will gain a basic overview in this area, which will be a starting point for related subjects. After completing the course, students will acquire the following competencies. Students will gain knowledge of basic concepts in the field of people at risk of social exclusion, people in crisis and ethnic minorities; risk groups; social exclusion as a multidimensional problem, including their consequences in the health and social field; the concept of a culture of poverty; construction of minorities and their specifics and approaches to them; crisis phenomenon, including consequences and coping strategies; principles of crisis intervention. Students will also gain the ability to identify tools to address the situation of people at risk of social exclusion, people in crisis, ethnic minorities and other at-risk groups (people released from school facilities for institutional or protective education and imprisonment and imprisonment and mental disability) and look for examples of good practice in this area.
