Course content
Lectures: 1 lecture of 2 hours 1. Health and disease. A bio-psycho-social and spiritual perspective. 2. Variable factors affecting health and disease. 3. Health care system and health policy in the Czech Republic, health services. 4. Ethics and health care 5. WHO Health 21 program, Health 2030 program. 6. - 7. Quality of life. 8. - 9. Healthy lifestyle. 10. Disease prevention and health promotion. Lay first aid. 11. - 12. Social work in health care. The role of the health and social worker. 13. - 14. Social determinants affecting health (children, adults, seniors). Seminars: 1 seminar 2 hours 1. Basic classification of diseases, basic symptoms of diseases, diagnosis. 2. Risk factors influencing the development of diseases. 3. Outpatient care, inpatient care. 4. Ethics in healthcare, doctor-patient relationship. 5. The practical impact of the Health 21 and Health 2030 programs on health care and patients themselves. 6. - 7. Quality of life and its influence on health and social situation, assessment of quality of life. 8. - 9. Influence of lifestyle on the development of civilization diseases 10. Possibilities of disease prevention, strengthening of health. Lay first aid. 11. - 12. Possibilities of cooperation between the social worker and the medical staff in order to improve the quality of life of the sick 13. - 14. Basic characteristics of diseases due to the age of the patient (childhood, adulthood, old age)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to familiarize students with the health care system and health policy in the Czech Republic, as well as social determinants that affect health, quality of life and a healthy lifestyle. Attention is also paid to the ethical aspects of health care, health promotion and disease prevention.
Acquired competencies The student acquires basic knowledge of lay first aid and is ready to apply it practically. The student understands the principles of a healthy lifestyle and is able to promote them in a broad social context in accordance with the long-term program for improving the health status of the population of the Czech Republic - Health 2030. Competence: - The student can identify the needs of clients on a bio-psycho-social and spiritual level. - The student can distinguish between factors influencing health and illness. - The student orients himself in the health and social care system in the Czech Republic. - The student knows the principles of ethical standards in the health and social field - The student knows the code of ethics for social workers and understands the values in social work - The student practically applies the principles of the WHO program Health 21 and Health 2030 - The student can practically apply lay first aid. - The student understands the individual roles within a multidisciplinary team and the position of a social worker/medical social worker in this team. - The student knows the social determinants affecting health in children, adults and seniors

Additional requirements for the student: the course is completed with credit and an oral exam. Credit and exam conditions: - active preparation and work at seminars, credit test - successful completion of the oral exam.
