Course content
Content focus: 1. Zootherapy - development and history, terminology, forms and types of zootherapy. Zootherapy according to the animal species - canis therapy, hyporehabilitation, feline therapy and other types of zootherapy. 2. Legislative conditions for performing zootherapy. Organizations providing zootherapy - examples from the Czech Republic and abroad. 3. Conditions for practicing zootherapy - by the animal, workers, target organizations. Intervention plan. Terms and conditions of contact between the client and the animals. Animal selection and preparation. 4. Zootherapy in children, adults and seniors. Indications and contraindications. Legislative conditions for performing zootherapy. The benefits of zootherapy. For clients. Case reports. 5. Animal in social services. Zootherapy in outpatient, field and residential social services. Examples of organizations providing zootherapy in social services. 6. Animal Assisted Social Work (AASW). Quality standards of zootherapy in social work. Competences in AASW. Evaluation of zootherapy. Ethical aspects of working with animals. 7. Canis therapy as a method of social work. Development of canistherapy in the Czech Republic. Conditions for practice. Learning outcomes
1. To acquaint students with basic terminology and legislative conditions in the field of zootherapy in the context of social work and social services. 2. To acquaint students with the methods and forms of zootherapy for children, adults and seniors and other target groups (children with autism spectrum disorder, seniors with dementia, etc.). 3. To acquaint students with the conditions and rules for practicing zootherapy, including indications and contraindications for its use. To acquaint students with the way of keeping documentation and evaluation of the zootherapeutic process.
1. The student knows the terminology in the field of zootherapy in social services and social work, and can explain the difference between therapy and activity with the assistance of animals. 2. The student knows specific methods, forms and specific examples of zootherapy, including how to use it in children, adults and seniors. 3. The student has mastered the basic conditions for practicing zootherapy, including documentation and evaluation. 4. The student is acquainted with the basics of the zootherapeutic process and the roles of individual participants. 5. The student knows the benefits of zootherapy and also the contraindications for its practice in social work and social services.

Conditions for fulfilling the course: a) active student participation in seminars, b) elaboration and presentation of a seminar paper on a chosen topic related to zootherapy.
