Course content

1-2: Definition of basic concepts in social pathology, the theory of the origin of social pathology (bio-psycho-social model). 3-4: Aggression and aggressiveness. Etiology, selected forms of violence - bullying, mobbing and bossing. Criminality, racism, nationalism, internet conflicts. Extremism and terrorism. 5-6: Sex business. Definition, types, motivation to sex business, multidimensional consequences. Legislation. 7-8: Social pathologies relating to the family. Family function and its disturbance. CAN syndrome, EAN syndrome. Partner home violence. 9-10: Self-harm as an addiction, suicides, acting out. Sects. 11-12: Homelessness. Definition, types, multidimensional consequences of homelessness. 13-14: Substance abusing, typology, effects, multidimensional effects of substance abusing. Impulsive disorders. Definition according to the International Classification of Diseases -10, associated risks. New impulsive disorders (netholism, etc.). Seminars: 1-2: Prevention of socially pathological phenomena. Primary, , secondary and tertiary prevention. 3-4: Burn-out syndrome. 5-6: Communication with a delinquent. 7-8: Home violence - violence against women, the elderly, false accusation of sexual abusing, - case studies 9-10. Addictive behaviors associated with cyber-space and consuming lifestyles 11-12: Lie as a basic ethopedy problem. 13-14: Games to increase psychic resistance.

Learning outcomes
|
The goal of the subject is to make students acquainted with the most common risk behaviors and socially pathological phenomena encountered by social workers. In addition, the subject provides a conceptual background for further subjects.
Students will acquire the following competences: the ability to define basic concepts in the area of norm and social pathology in the context of bio-psycho-social model, and the knowledge of selected social-pathological phenomena, including their structure, dynamics, causes, consequences and the possibility of their prevention, including the institutions which ensure the prevention. Furthermore, students will acquire the skills to recognize the structure, the consequences of socially pathological events and to identify the possibilities of their institutional prevention and to look up and use the sources of professional literature and the key information resources in the area of socially pathological events.
