Course content
1. Introduction to ten-finger touch-typing method, keyboard arrangement, introduction to the ZAV software package, other software for typing learning (2 hours) 2. Typography basics - choosing optimal typeface, ten rules of readability, dividing and navigating documents (2 hours) 3. Typographic rules - word division; correct use of hyphen, dash, non-breakable spaces, etc.; differences in use in Czech and English documents (2 hours) 4. Document editing - ČSN 01 6910, personal and business correspondence (2 hours) 5. Utilisation of e-sources - search engines, library catalogues, electronic resource databases (2 hours) 6. Text processing - proof-reading, bibliographic citations, citation managers, tips and tricks for MS Word (2 hours)

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to let students develop the skill of ten-finger typing in order to create and process documents efficiently. ZAV software package is used for typing training so that every student can proceed at his/her own pace, based solely on their effort. Moreover, students are to gain basic knowledge of typography, go through difficult cases of Czech spelling rules, learn how to process personal and business correspondence according to the ČSN 01 6910 Czech technical norm (Guidelines for text presentation). Lectures are going to further provide students with an overview of e sources utilisation and advanced text processing, including OCR and proof-reading. Practice lessons are focused on practising the current topics, following the lectures.
Upon finishing the course, students will be able to touch-type using ten fingers and to produce formally well-structured diploma thesis or other scholarly papers utilising basic knowledge of typography, correct Czech spelling, and the ČSN 01 6910 technical norm.
Prerequisites
Usual user knowledge of Windows and Office environment and czech grammar knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Student performance assessment, Analysis of student's language skills, Questionnaire, Test, Interim evaluation

For passing the final exam is needed to know touch typing at least at the level of 400 exercises in ZAV software, typographic rules knowledge and their application during proofreading. Furthermore preparation of personal and business correspondence according to the czech standards (CSN 016910).
