Key learning outcomes During the study, students will first learn the basics of major biological disciplines (botany and zoology, basics of ecology, genetics). In addition, the field includes several issues. The protection of nature itself is crucial, especially at the species level. It is closely related to the breeding of pets and the cultivation of collection plants (whether in zoological or botanical gardens or hobby or commercial breeding) and international trade in them. Here we pay particular attention to the issue of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, known by the acronym CITES. An integral part of the study are subjects that increase the overall qualification of students and bring them generally useful skills, such as the ability to understand professional text, ability to search and critically evaluate information, knowledge of successful presentation of not only professional information, group cooperation, communication, etc. emphasis is placed on the language skills of graduates.
Specific admission requirements unspecified
Specific provisions for recognition of prior learning unspecified
Qualification requirements and regulations Successful completion of the bachelor's study program of appropriate specialization and successful completion of the admission procedure. The advantage for studying is a higher level of knowledge of biological disciplines.
Profile of the programme Academic
Persistence requirements unspecified
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples Graduates will be able to hold positions where a broader and deeper knowledge of internationally protected organisms is necessary (botanical and zoological gardens, institutions dealing with nature conservation, the sphere of enlightenment, education, etc.). Therefore, graduates will find employment mainly as specialists in state institutions (Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of the Environment, Czech Environmental Inspectorate, environmental departments of regional authorities and municipalities, police departments monitoring illegal trade in organisms, customs administration, etc.), or also in similarly focused EU institutions. They will find further application in the scientific research sphere, as well as in the field of education, including the media, where highly professionally funded workers are increasingly needed. Furthermore, as operators or managers of companies engaged in the breeding of "hobby" animals and the cultivation of collection plants and trade in these organisms.
