Key learning outcomes Graduates, upon completing the follow-up master's program, are prepared for the teaching profession so that their professional profile fully meets the requirements placed on foreign language instruction in the context of the currently valid educational goals. They have command of the German language at least at the C1 level according to the CEFR, and they are prepared for their profession in terms of practical language skills, didactics, linguistics, literature, and intercultural competence. They can use the German language well enough to conduct an entire lesson in it. Their language expression skills should serve as a model both phonetically and generally in communication. In the field of linguistics, they are proficient in practical language in both spoken and written form, and they have a grasp of basic linguistic theories to the necessary extent. In terms of literary studies preparation, students are knowledgeable in German-language literature, especially modern literature. Graduates are able to connect theory with practice based on observations of teaching and their own teaching experience, acquire basic skills for developing a school curriculum, and become familiar with working with a portfolio. Thanks to the intensive contacts of the Department of German Studies with the University of Passau, students have the opportunity to participate in international team teaching as part of ongoing practical teaching experience, and to collaborate with Bavarian students in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of lessons. The department also allows regular classroom observations and practical experience at a partner elementary school in Freistadt, Upper Austria. The study program offers greater opportunities for specialization according to individual interests thanks to an expanded range of compulsory elective courses.
