The study in the Bachelor's degree programme German Language and Literature with a focus on education for secondary schools forms a whole with the follow-up Master's degree programme Teaching for Secondary Schools and together they are conceived as a comprehensive structured study (B.Sc. + M.Sc.), the successful completion of which leads to the qualification of a pedagogical worker - a secondary school teacher according to Act No. 563/2004 Coll. Both programmes (B.Sc. + M.Sc.) are submitted for accreditation at the same time. The structure of the programmes is consistently based on the Framework Requirements for Study Programmes leading to professional qualifications for the performance of regulated professions of teaching staff (No. MSMT-21271/2017-5a). In accordance with the aforementioned MSMT Framework Requirements, the Bachelor's degree programme in German Language and Literature with a focus on secondary school education includes subjects of subject-specific preparation, as well as the basics of subject-specific didactics, basic disciplines of pedagogical psychology and a compulsory assistantship, which the student implements at a selected secondary school. The realized practice is divided between the two disciplinary components (assisting the teacher in teaching the subject) and the pedagogical-psychological basis (assisting in the educational work of the teacher and his/her activities oriented to the management of the pupil and the class collective). The main objective of the study at the level of the Bachelor's degree programme is to prepare graduates to become experts in education within two fields (major and minor) corresponding to the future teacher's subjects of endorsement. The inclusion of didactics, pedagogical-psychological disciplines and assistantship already in the bachelor's degree ensures that graduates will be able to reflect on the knowledge gained from the study of the disciplinary subjects in relation to their practical application in pedagogical practice, e.g. in educational work or in the role of a teaching assistant in a secondary school (according to the Act on Teaching Staff 563/2004 Coll., graduates of the bachelor's part of teacher training can hold the positions of teaching assistant or tutor). It is also important to motivate students to enter the follow-up master's programme so that they can use their knowledge after completing the master's programme in teaching their subjects at secondary school.
