Course content
Remote sensing and GIS methods ? definition, terms and principles. Geographical data, SW, visualization of the geodata. Geographic coordination systems and its transformation. Retrieving of the GIS data, digitalization of raster data, attribute tables. Data processing and analysis in GIS. 3D models in GIS. Process modeling in the landscape and GIS. GPS system. Introduction and historical overview to remote sensing methods. Basic introduction to the physics used in remote sensing, data sources. Retrieving of the data using distance methods. Satelites used in remote sensing. Basic statistical methods used in remote sensing. Preprocesing and correction of the data. Contrast stretching and density slicing. Visual and digital interpretation of the data. Multispectral and hyperspectral data and their use. Remote sensing in thermal and microwave spectral bands. Classification of the data. Detection of the Earth surface changes. Spectral indexes. Remote sensing in searching for solution to the ecological tasks.

Learning outcomes
Introduction to the basics of geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing and digital image analysis as tools for the retrieving, processing and presentation of the Earth surface data and information in the different spatial scale. Students will gain knowledge about the ways GIS and remote sensing methods are used in ecological disciplines.
Student will get a basic overview and skill in a problematic of remote sensing and analysis of spatial data in study area of the life sciences.
Essentials of ecology, landscape ecology, statistics and physics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Active engangement on the practices, passing the tests. Examination is in written and oral form.
