Course content
The first semester will focus on the following topics from English File Fourth Edition Advanced: Unit 1: - topics: We are family, A job for life? - grammar: lexical and gramatical uses of have, discourse markers - linkers - vocabulary: personality, work Unit 2: - topics: Do you remember?, On the tip of my tongue - grammar: habitual events and specific incidents in the past, pronouns - vocabulary: word building - abstract nouns, lexical areas

Learning outcomes
The English Language course provides students with practical language preparation necessary for further study of English. This communicatively oriented seminar aims primarily at consolidating knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and balanced development of all four basic language skills, i.e. working with text, writing, speaking and listening. Speech skills and language resources are developed from the expected entry level B2+ to level C1+ according to the CEFR. Within the English Language I course, students will reflect on their own learning of a foreign language, become familiar with appropriate strategies and procedures for their further language development and set their own short-term and long-term goals in this area.
Communicative competence. Aiming at language level C1 according to CEFR.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Essay, Student performance assessment, Analysis of student's language skills, Test

All examinations and consultations are held in English. Active participation. No more than two absences. The final mark consists of: A group speaking project - 20% of the final mark A written test with a focus on grammar, vocabulary and listening comprehension - 30% of the final mark A paper on reflecting one's own foreign language learning - 20% of the final mark Passmark: 70% After completing the above requirements students can take the oral exam - 30% of the final mark
