Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to a variety of representations and interpretations of selected historical moments and aspects of British history in British literature and film. Analyses and discussions of individual works and their rendering of historical processes also take into account more general trends in historical interpretation. The critical interpretation based on the consideration of the historical, sociocultural, political and ideological contexts of its production will be focused on the identification of the author's historical-narrative and interpretation strategies. The course material includes both traditional and (post)modern works of literature and film as examples of more conventional as well as alternative representations of the past.
