The subject draws on the lingustic subjects taken in the course of B.A. study (Phonetics and phonology I and II, Morphology I and II, Introduction to the study of the English language, Syntax I and II, and Lexicology). The purpose is to show that while foreign language teachers need a sum of theoretical knowledge, it is just one of the components of their professional competence. The subject therefore looks at the knowledge and skills of the furure teachers in relation to the English syllabus as implemented in lower-secondary schools, making students familiar with it and prompting them to reflect on it in the light of their linguistic education. The subject also incudes analysis of lower-secodary shool textbooks of English from the perspective of their grammar component.
