Course content
1. Basic units: morph, allomorph, morpheme, word; classification of morphemes 2. Parts of speech and grammatical properties contrasting with Czech 3. Noun. Classification of nouns. Category of number. Irregular and supletive plural forms. 4. The noun and its morphological, semantic and syntactic properties. 5. The concept of countability. Ways of transforming uncountables into countables, quantifiers and partitives 6. Category of gender. 7. The case system. 8-9. The concept of determination. 10. Pronoun. Classification of pronouns. 11. Adjective. Classification of adjectives. 12. Adverb. Classification of adverbs. 13. Adjectival and adverbial phrases. 14. Numerals. Numeral types. 1-3: Types and functions of English prepositions 4: Morphological and semantic characteristics of the English verb 5-6: Types of verb: auxiliary, linking, modal, inchoative, etc. 7: Modal verbs 8-10: Nonfinite verbal forms: participle, infinitive, gerund 11: Verbal mood 12-13: Verbal tense and sequence of tenses 14: Verbal voice and aspect

Learning outcomes
This subject focuses on those aspects of the morphological structure of English that are different from Czech and therefore potentially difficult. In addition to theoretical background provided by lectures, the course aims to improve students´ practical skills in the use of nouns, pronouns, numerals, adjectival and adverbial phrases.
A practical knowledge of the morphological system of English, acquisition of practical skills.

Minimum entry level of English: Intermediate - Upper-Intermediate

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Interim evaluation

All examinations and consultations are held in English. Active participation in the seminar and passing of partial in-term tests. Passing final test
