Course content
The programme includes the following themes: naturalism, modernism, the 'Lost Generation,' Southern literature, the war novel, the 'Beat Generation,' Jewish-American literature, African-American literature, modern American prose, poetry and drama.

Learning outcomes
The course aims to make students familiar with the specific features of American literature from the beginning of the 20th century, while particular discussions are focused on the heterogeneous nature of American cultural experience. In addition to theoretical background provided by the lecture, the seminar reading concentrates on particular authors and their texts as well as on the links between the literary development and a particular cultural and historical context.

Minimum level of English: Upper-Intermediate. Knowledge of essential concepts of literature.

Essay, Analysis of creative work (musical, visual, literary), Interview

All examinations and consultations are held in English. Active participation in the seminar, a written interpretation of a chosen work, passing of partial in-term tests.
