Course content
1: geography 2-3: system of government; parties; elections; local government 4: economy, employment; transport 5: health and social care 6: human rights and minorities; religion 7: housing and life styles; important values 8: system of education 9-10: leisure and sports; holidays and traditions 11: arts and culture 12: mass media 13: Scotland; Wales; Northern Ireland 14. Learning outcomes
The course provides an introduction to life and institutions in the English-speaking countries with the aim to help students understand their culture and values. The lecture is complemented by students' presentations in the seminar based on their study.
The basic grasp of the cultural background of the English speaking countries, essential for further study in the field.
Prerequisites
Minimum entry level of English: Upper-Intermediate

Student performance assessment, Interview

All examinations and consultations are held in English. Active participation in the seminar; a presentation based on the study of recommended literature.
