Course content
The course programme covers the following themes: 1. particular theoretical approaches to the literary text (biographical, psychological, socio-historical, philosophical) 2. the development of Anglo-American literary theory (Renaissance, Classicism, Romanticism, the Victorian period, the New Criticism, structuralism, archetypal criticism, deconstruction, the New Historicism, feminism and psychoanalytic criticism) 3. the influence of modern West European philosophy 4. the relations between literature and other types of art

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce particular areas of literary theory with regard to the different possibilities and methods of literary interpretation. In addition to theoretical background provided by the lecture, the seminar is structured to help the students use their knowledge in the analysis of particular literary texts. In this respect, the course is recommended to the students working on their diploma theses.
