Course content
The concept and content of ecology, classification of ecology, applied fields. Ecological factors, classification, effects of ecological factors on organisms. Biosphere, ecosphere, zoosphere, biomes and their types, ecosystems, their structure and function. Organism and environment: reactivity of organisms to ecological factors, adaptation, stress factors conditioning life in the aquatic and terrestrial environment. Food chains - food prey and detritus. Basic functions of the soil ecosystem. Demecology: population, population parameters. Intraspecific and interspecific relationships. Synecology: communities, their features, structure, development. Productivity and production, mass cycle and energy flow. Biogeochemical cycles - gaseous and sedimentary types. Health aspects of the presence of some elements and compounds in the ecosystem, general aspects of the effect on the organism, examples. Ecological factors of the aquatic environment, living conditions in different types of waters. Current global environmental issues.

Learning outcomes
To acquaint students with basic principles of ecology and its branches
Based on the acquired theoretical knowledge, a better understanding of the subjects of special ecology (Ecology and Ecophysiology of Plants and Ecology and Ecophysiology of Animals).
