Course content
Overview of important groups of macrophytic vegetation. Aquatic and swamp plants as an element of ecological stability of the landscape. Uptake of mineral nutrients in littoral vegetation, species suitable for wastewater treatment plants, function of plant roots in the rootzone treatment plant, propagation, planting and treatment of vegetation treatment plants. Dynamics of macrophyte growth of water reservoirs, factors causing excessive development of water macrovegetation, methods of its control. Development of fishpond vegetation in relation to fishing management and fish production. Growing and harvesting ofmacrophytes for industrial processing, application in medicine, cosmetics and food. Aquatic and swamp plants as a supplementary food for waterfowl and fish and other uses for ornamental and landscaping purposes.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic characteristics, functioning and use of aquatic macrophytes, i.e., the plant species of wetlands including shallow water bodies. Macrophytes are presented from different points of view: (1) main environmental characteristics influencing the life of macrophytes, (2) adaptations of emerged and submerged macrophytes to the environmental conditions, (3) typical species of macrophytes in different wetland types (4) contribution of macrophytes to wetland ecosystem services , (4) paludiculture: cultivation and use of macrophytes as food, fodder, medicinal purposes, technological and building materials, renewable energy resources, (5) Functions of macrophytes in wastewater treatment, (6) rare species of macrophytes, (7) invasive species of macrophytes.
The basic knowledge on macrophyta and its functioning in wetlenads.

Knowledge of the basic botany

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

The basic knowledge of botany and ecology of wetlands.
