Course content
1. Morphology and anatomy of succulent plants. 2. Adaptation to extreme conditions of water availability, evaporation and irradiation. 3. Origin of cacti and main groups of other succulents in relation to the cultivation of individual genera. 4. Environment for cultivation. 5. methods of commercial cultivation. 6. Methods of hobby cultivation. 7. Substrates for cultivation. 8. Reproduction by cuttings, shoots, division of tufts. 9. Reproduction by grafting. 10. Sowing cacti. 11. Chemical protection against diseases and pests. 12. Diseases and pests in culture. 13. Nutrition and fertilization of cacti. 14. Practical examples of planting cacti and other succulents in the collections of botanical gardens and in the collections of private amateur growers.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of cactus cultivation - with their specific requirements, culture, autovegetative, xenovegetative and generative methods of reproduction. Morphology and anatomy of succulent plants, examples of adaptations to extreme conditions of water availability, evaporation and irradiation. Origin of cacti and main groups of other succulents in relation to cultivation of individual genera, cultivation environment, methods of commercial cultivation, methods of hobby cultivation, substrates for cultivation, propagation by cuttings, shoots, division of tufts, propagation by grafting, sowing of cacti, chemical protection against diseases and pests , the most common diseases and pests in culture, nutrition and fertilization of cacti.
Basic knowledge of botany and anatomy of plants.
Prerequisites
attendance at seminars, 10-15 minute oral presentation regarding cultivations of cactuses, knowledge of basic principles of ecology and botanical classification.

Student performance assessment, Interview, Combined exam, Test, Seminar work

-to determine important and frequently cultivated species, be able to know their area of the original populations -to know basic characteristics of the species, behavior and ecological requirements
