Course content
1. Basics of biology of the Orchidaceae family. 2. Morphology and specifics of physiology, ecology. 3. Specifics of terrestrial and epiphytically growing taxa. 4. Cultivation of orchids in housing conditions, greenhouses and other facilities. 5. Requirements for temperature, humidity, light, nutrition. 6. Culture substrates. 7. Containers and transplants. 8. Diseases and pests of orchids. 9. Basic taxonomic division of the family Orchidaceae. 10. Growing specifics of individual groups. 11. Orchid propagation: different ways of vegetative propagation. 12. Asymbiotic sowing. 13.-14. Propagation of orchids by cultivation of explants.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on the biology, system, ecology and methods of growing plants of the family Orchidaceae with a focus on the cultivation of interest, especially the original botanical species. Basics of biology of the Orchidaceae family. Morphology and specifics of physiology, ecology. Specifics of terrestrial and epiphytically growing taxa. Cultivation of orchids in housing conditions, greenhouses and other facilities: demands on temperature, humidity, light, nutrition, culture media, containers and transplanting. Diseases and pests of orchids. Basic taxonomic division of the Orchidaceae family, cultivation specifics of individual groups. Orchid propagation: various methods of vegetative propagation, asymbiotic sowing, orchid propagation by culturing explants.
Basic knowledge of botany and anatomy of plants.
Prerequisites
10-15 minute oral presentation, knowledge of basic principles of ecology and botanical classification
