Course content
|
Content of lectures: Types and chemical composition of waters. Resources of drinking and service water. Theory of groundwater infiltration, estimation of a well yield. Water demand and quality criteria for public, agricultural and industrial water supply. Water supply, drainage, sanitary systems. Water accumulation. Groundwater treatment (carbonate buffering system and removal of carbon dioxide, manganese, and iron). Surface water treatment (colloidal matter in water, coagulation). Preparatory treatment, sedimentation, and filtration (rapid-sand and slow sand filtration). Water disinfection (chlorination, ozone, UV radiation). Special water treatment technologies (adsorption, distillation, ultra-filtration, reversal osmosis, dialysis, desalination of seawater, denitrification, adsorption, and ion exchange adsorption). Treatment of service water for agriculture, civil and power engineering and industry. Principles of treatment technologies used for industrial and municipal wastewaters (mechanical treatment, activated sludge, biological reactors, denitrification, anaerobic stabilization, tertiary treatment, neutralization, precipitation). Content of practices: Water quality standards, sanitary water resources protection zones. Calculations in water treatment technologies (carbonate buffering system, Bernoulli's equation for fluid flow). Excursion tour to a water treatment plant.
