Course content
Content of lectures: * Introduction - general principles of GIS, basic concepts, vector data, raster data, data sources, data quality. * Project, work with layers, attributes, symbology. Creation of outputs. * Coordinate systems, displaying data in different projections. * Spatial data processing. * Data creation - georeferencing, digitization. * Raster data and basic analysis. * ArcGIS online, work with mobile applications.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Demonstration, Work with multi-media resources (texts, internet, IT technologies)
  • Class attendance - 36 hours per semester
  • Preparation for classes - 40 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Students will learn the basic principles of working with GIS. They will learn how to work in ArcGIS Pro. They will become proficient in basic ArcGIS Pro operations involving geographic data, primarily vector data.
Students will learn how to process, evaluate, create and present spatial data in ArcGIS Pro.
Prerequisites
Basic computer skills at secondary school level are expected.

Assessment methods and criteria
Test, Interim evaluation

Students receive tasks at the end of each lesson, that they have to work out and create map outputs. Submission of these tasks is a precondition for admission to final exam. During the exam, students have to process and evaluate the given spatial data within 120 minutes.
