Course content
Content of lectures: Recapitulation of basic GIS course, creation of map outputs * Data, data structures, geodatabase, topology (file system storage, database storage, web services) Analytical functions of GIS * spatial analysis based on vector data (overlay functions, distance functions, data updating) * spatial analysis based on raster data (raster algebra, terrain functions, raster interpolation) * Basic approach and usage spatial data in 3D environment - spatial analysis and visualization in 3D Analyst (ESRI) extension * Automatization of data processing (batch processing, model builder - creation of the own new models in GIS) * Basic geostatistic tools (interpolation and sampling techniques) * GIS tools in web environment (map servers, OGC and ISO services, data sources, gis within "light web client") * Open source GIS tools (free gis tools, open source tools, add-ons and extensions) * Cartographic outputs (atlas creation - dynamic driven pages, cartographic representations, templates) The lectures and the practical training will run be on ArcGIS software and its extensions (Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, 3D Analyst).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Work with multi-media resources (texts, internet, IT technologies), Individual tutoring
  • Class attendance - 56 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 45 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 16 hours per semester
  • Preparation for classes - 35 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to increase students knowledge of GIS as a tool suitable for processing of spatial data, analysing spatial data and modeling the distribution of phenomena and their properties in space. Practical examples for spatial analyzes are selected from the field of landscape ecology, geography, geology and urban spatial planning. The course emphasis searching spatial relationships and connections in the landscape around us.
The student will acquire basic knowledge about processing of spatial data analysis. The student will learn how to access the most common operations on raster and vector data and will understand the principles of commonly used functions in GIS. At the same time, he will get the basic knowledge for GIS tasks automaton and how to create his own models in ESRI GIS programs (ArcGIS).
Prerequisites
The course freely follows the course GIS I. (KBE / 548), but its fulfillment is not necessary if the student has a basic idea of GIS systems. Against GIS I. (KBE / 548), the course aims more on spatial data analysis. Special course for Ph.D. study field Ecosystem Biology, Botany and Entomology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Combined exam, Interim evaluation

Continuous elaboration of the practical assignment (individual exercises) on topics given by the lecturer. Practical exercises at PC are part of the exam.
