Course content
Geology - rock outcrops, geological bedrock, processes; karst, sediments, igneous and metamorphic rocks. Geomorphology - examples of Dawis's geomorphological cycle in the landscape (rock towns, Bohemian Cretaceous Basin), weathering factors (water, aeolian activity, temperatures, chemical weathering, activity of microorganisms) Basics of meteorology and climatology - local and regional climate in the landscape (frost pockets, summit effect, pseudophenes and hair dryers, anemo-orographic systems, rain shadow). Distribution of temperatures and precipitation in the Czech Republic in connection with the prevailing air flow and the influence of relief. Hydrology and limnology - water quality, eutrophication as a serious problem of Czech reservoirs and ponds, acidification of aquatic ecosystems, flood and drought problems.

  • Field trip - 72 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The main aim of the course is to bring better insight into the problem of physical geography (Geology, geomorphology, Basic Meteorology and Climatology, Hydrology and Limnology) during an excursion. The topics of all courses of physical geography are equally balanced. The main region for excursion is Czech Republic with border regions of Austria and Slovakia. All students will prepare their essay on specified topic which will be presented during the excursion in the field.
