Course content
1. Lexicology as a scientific discipline, basic concepts, literature. 2. Lexicography, dictionaries, their types. 3. The concept of a word, a word as a sign, lexical semantics. 4. Neology. 5. Semasiological-onomasiological derivation. 6. Specialization, generalization. 7. Folk etymology. 8?10. Phraseologisms, their characteristics and classification. 11. Changes in evaluation, changes at the linguistic level. 12. Paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations between lexical units. 13. Richness of vocabulary, developmental trends.

Learning outcomes
Lexicology as a scientific discipline, its structure, basic concepts, literature. Vocabulary as a whole, vocabulary richness, individual vocabulary, active and passive vocabulary. The concept of a word, a word as a sign, the meaning of a word, components of the meaning of autosemantic words, lexical onomasiology. Neology ? the creation of new lexical units. Changes in meaning, semasiological-onomasiological derivation. Specialization, generalization, lexical metonymy, lexical metaphor, folk etymology. Changes in evaluation: pejorative, meliorative, euphemism, litotes, dysphemism, hyperbole, irony. Changes at the linguistic level. Paradigmatic relationships between vocabulary units: homonyms, synonyms, antonyms, paronyms, hypernyms, hyponyms. Phraseologisms, their characteristics and classification.
Students will master the fundamentals of Czech lexicology. Students will gain an understanding of vocabulary-related issues. Students will understand the paradigmatic relationships between lexical units and apply their acquired knowledge in teaching practice. Students will gain an overview of Czech vocabulary, acquire knowledge of basic concepts and methods in lexicology, and learn the fundamentals of language corpora.

Morphology, syntax, word form.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Student performance assessment, Interim evaluation

Active participation in seminars, completion of assignments, attendance, and a description and presentation of a selected dictionary.
